Apex Leadership Co. Welcomes Matthew Breman, New Franchisee in Montgomery County, Maryland
There are few things more exciting for Apex Leadership Co. than seeing its team expand and welcoming new franchisees. That said, the company is happy to announce that Matthew Breman, a resident of Silver Spring, Maryland is a new branch owner. His branch will serve youth in the Montgomery County area.
Breman has been exploring local business opportunities to “do good” in his community for several years and was introduced to Apex — among several other franchise options, by an entrepreneurship broker. He chose Apex because it aligns with his interest in supporting young people and helping them gain critical life and leadership skills.
“I am passionate about the power of youth and sport to drive social change. My own youth was marked by endless sports and play, living overseas with parents committed to public service, and my U.S. public school education. Apex provides me an opportunity to continue this journey, encouraging young people to build their life and leadership skills using a hassle-free school fitness and fundraising program that positively impacts youth right here in my community,” says Breman of his decision to take ownership of an Apex franchise. “I was immediately attracted by Apex’s vision, ideas and open sharing-learning culture that I feel is essential for growth.”
Breman says that Montgomery County is one of the most diverse counties in the U.S. The demographic is wide ranging and includes an extreme of incomes from very wealthy to first generation immigrants struggling to make a life for themselves and their families. He is excited to be able to bring the Apex program to students and youth in these communities.
“All Montgomery County families, children and schools will benefit tremendously from the Apex program, which provides an opportunity to introduce life and leadership skills to youth while increasing financial support for schools and teachers,” says Breman, who has spent more than 25 years serving vulnerable populations in the U.S. and abroad while leading and managing global government, non-profit and private-sector programs ranging from education workforce development to health, nutrition and emergency assistance. “There may also be an opportunity for wealthier parts of the county to subsidize Apex programming in less wealthy parts.”
Breman was raised in West Africa and Europe, and then graduated from high school in the US (Atlanta, GA), college from Brandeis University near Boston, and graduate school from Johns Hopkins’ School of Advanced International Studies in Washington, DC. He has spent most of his professional life working in sub-Saharan Africa. Since 2010, he has lived in Silver Spring, where he enjoys spending time with his family — including his wife, their three children and goldendoodle Teddy — trying new ethnic restaurants, playing and coaching soccer (for his kids’ local teams), volunteering through his Temple and rooting for Georgia (college) and Atlanta (pro) sports teams.
Breman joined the Apex Leadership Co. team in July and is currently going through the company’s training program.
